Laboratory Unit Coordinator: |
Antonio Iera |
Support: |
Italian Ministry of Research - Project of National Relevance (PRIN) |
Main Research Objectives: |
The main objective of the research is to contribute to the design of the integration of the satellite/HAPS platforms into the communication systems of future generation, with a particular attention to: the definition of the role of the satellite within the asymmetrical (terrestrial Uploand and satellite Download) and symmetrical (both Upload and Download over the satellite) platforms; the management of the “adaptive“ quality of service (soft-QoS) for multimedia applications; the definition of QoS metrics for multimedia applications over terrestrial-satellite integrated systems; the study and the design of techniques for the optimization of the resource utilization (call admission, resource allocation) in -RCS (Digital Video Broadcasting – Return Channel via Satellite) systems; the study of the most appropriate transport solution (mainly for the data IP traffic with and without QoS guarantees) for Multicast traffic over integrated HAP and terrestrial UMTS systems. |
